You know, I've wondered the same thing.
If there even were a merger or some resurrection, who's to say it would involve our shares at all? Why would a dead corporation spend/lend out any money if they don't have to? Especially one who, according to so many theories, has gone WAY out of their way to hid mergers or restructuring, etc. It's my understanding of business that they are there to make money, not give it away for naught.
Even so, there's nothing shareholders can do anyways. My couple hundred shares are just sitting there, worth nothing, looking red in my account. No need to forfeit them, just letting them sit and look like red wallpaper.
On the otherhand, if nothing does come of these rumours, they will still just be there, doing nothing.
