Keep the following in mind. It means EOD...every other day dosing...is feasible if you run into side effects.

It takes about 77 hours (3 days) for atorvastatin to be out of your system. The elimination half life of atorvastatin is approximately 14 hours.

I pill split 80 mg atorvastatin... and generally skip a dose once or twice/week. My lipid numbers remain well below dangerous levels since I began my regimen in '13. The first blood test at 3 mos was dramatic; bad numbers fell off the table edge and have remained on the floor.

Also, VERY important. All of effects listed below were learned not in the clinical trials but rather in clinical use over the past 30 years. Reads like the benefits claimed for herbal teas and various supplements.

Pleiotropic effects of statins include improvement of endothelial dysfunction, increased nitric oxide bioavailability, antioxidant properties, inhibition of inflammatory responses, and stabilization of atherosclerotic plaques.

These and several other emergent properties could act in concert with the potent low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-lowering effects of statins to exert early as well as lasting cardiovascular protective effects. Understanding the pleiotropic effects of statins is important to optimize their use in treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

It takes about 77 hours (3 days) for atorvastatin to be out of your system. The elimination half life of atorvastatin is approximately 14 hours. This is the time it takes for your body to reduce plasma drug levels by half. It takes approximately 5.5 x elimination half lives for a medicine to be out of ones system.

However other factors to consider include:

1. How much and how often you have taken the drug.

2. Your metabolic rate – a slower metabolism will increase the time a drug remains in your system.

3. Your age and health – older age and poor health will generally increase the time the drug stays in your system.

4. Body mass – generally the bigger you are the longer a drug will remain in your system.
