It sounds too far out for most to consider, but don't forget at least the most religious Republicans could be into religion so fervently they really believe we are in the End Times now and are looking forward to the Apocalypse.

Some even say there are believers worldwide actively working to make things worse so as to bring their own trip to heaven even sooner. It's nuts, but some are.

Gotta say also, i agree with the others re your tendency to false equivalency at times. It's easy to put all politicians in the same basket, but don't think it's right.
