Zeev, I don't think anything was said about sector selection. The Fed paints witha broad brush. I think Kaufman was implying that there is no need to engineer soft landings from bubbles if the Fed would only recognize that stocks are reaching bubble proportion. Hell, I think most any good economist should be able to recognize the current bubble in stock valuations.
Btw, if one were to "engineer" a soft landing, wouldn't it be possible that they would need to intervene in stock prices from time to time?
