>I'd consider trying to learn a second language
if I was really convinced that it would work. I have my doubts , though , about all of these studies since I'm not sure they've ruled out the possibility that the cognitive reserve is pre-existing in those people who are more likely to engage in such exercises ( " Those that can , do. " ). Thus , the activities that are believed to confer the protective effect are no more that surrogate markers for the lucky population with the built-in cognitive reserve.<

There is no way out of that confounded confounding dilemma for us, but the study dealt with "lifelong bilingualism" so
is not reached by your criticism. It's ironic that the
same lobby pushing bilingual education is in charge of
implementing the socially disastrous theories of John Dewey.

I don't want to get TOSsed for politicking but I will note that
monopolies seldom stand tall in product quality and customer
service. It's enough to drive a man to drink. On the other hand
cessation of heavy alcohol use has been found to increase brain
mass by 2% in 100 days, so there is hope for some of us.
