According to the CEO, they had to talk to the Super Famous Galactic Sized Wall St. Banker to acquire them. To get them, they needed to get the price of common stock down, because Preferred B shares are based on the price of common at the close on a certain day, thus the SEVEN DAyS OF PAIN for shareholders. So yeah, they paid for them.
