I work in health insurance. Government did same exact shit with ACA penalties for employers. Instead of fining large employers right away that didn’t offer a plan, they waited 3 years to start sending out fines. So now employers are getting $100,000 penalties for 2018. Like this week lol. Well at this point for the employer, 2019 and 2020 are impossible to fix. So now instead of making a poor choice one year, getting fined, and fixing the poor choice... the employer has $300,000 in fines coming their way. Nothing they can do about it. The government let the employer get deeper and deeper before stepping in just like the SEC is doing to investors with suspending the most active penny stocks.
I agree with you 100%. It’s fucked up. Lol even when the government tries to protect you from yourself, you still eat shit.
