sortagreen... I was on a destroyer. We'd
get in as close as three quarters of a mile off the coast to provide gun fire support for the Marines. And you won't believe this but the north Vietamese bastards shot back! And there was no place to hide. I had a Captain that was good at dodging bullits. Close misses are not pleasent. Some of my sister ships weren't as lucky. The Evans was cut in half by the Melbourn and the bow sunk in two minutes. I had friends on that one. Sonarmen quarters were in the bow.

I joined the Navy because it was a tradition in my family. When I left college I knew I'd be drafted, so I joined the Navy. You never know where that will take you.
