Not true. Most utility companies in Texas require that the electricity generated by solar panels be sold back to the utility company. You then receive a credit on your bill for the amount of energy generated.
So..even those with solar panels (several in my Austin neighborhood) had no power during the outage due to the grid being down.
Storage is a big need...and SiNG has stated that they will be getting into that part of solar as part of their complete solar package.
