You've always been nice about explaining things to me.
This question is from a friend. Trust me... it is not me. I am meticulous about car maintenance and am fortunate to have a couple of excellent mechanics.
He has a station wagon that is about 15 years old. Says he has never had the trans fluid changed. His mechanic said not to. Said at this point the fluid has become one with the trans.
Sounds like b.s. to me... not to mention a recipe for having the transmission replaced.
I watched the last time my mechanic changed the trans fluid in mine. He showed me the magnet that grabs the little metal shavings. Seems to me that the longer you let this go, the worse the wear and tear on the transmission from all those little pieces of metal circulating through the system. Bet the magnet is only effective in holding them down in the "pan" (?) for so long.
