Could be, that they build some highend stuff and/or some
dev. things, but why should they produce these parts by
itself, if Asus and Co. could produce it cheaper for you?
It doesn't make sense.

edit:
I don't have numbers, but my guess would be:

<10% of all Intel boards come from Intel
>90% from Asus and Co.
