It happens, but what you aren't taking into account is that a reverse split with good management opens up the future of a public company.

Please dear god tell me though that the short interest is not 136% of the float for real though, that would just be nasty...

If you aren't happy with your history of this stock though, I would just move on. You aren't helping yourself by sticking around throwing words around like this.
