Thanks. I wonder what percent of significant short sales are actually being dealt with. Maybe they will realize it is time to deal with this problem. Sunshine being the most effective disinfectant and all.

As many of you know, I come from a commodities background. In that environment, there are always exactly as many shorts as there are longs because it is the buying and selling of contracts. The contract does not exist until there is a new buy and sell transaction pair.

I have seen how infractions (price manipulation, etc.) are handled by the CFTC and perhaps the SEC could learn a lesson or two from them.

For example, it is quite common for trading privileges to be revoked for a period of time and I believe I have seen permanent revocation for repeat / egregious offenders.
