Backwards compatible is one thing, but I don't think I'd want something that's backwardly compatible.
Seriously, though, I see what you mean about some of the benefits, but it will be interesting to see if AMD can overcome the chicken and egg problem in this market. In order to justify an ODM doing a new design, there needs to be a market for it. In order to create a market, you need to have enough designs. That has been a major problem for BTX to get any traction. How much is AMD going to finance the ODMs to encourage them to embrace yet another standard, and one that has at least a few minor limitations?
