Just before I took off for my junior year at big U, I earned enough money to buy a good stereo. To help me get the biggest bang for my buck, my dad (the Bell Labs electrical engineer) built a Heathkit AR-19 tuner/receiver/amp for me. It was second to top of the line (top of the line would have been better than his Fisher Kit lol). I still have it, the assembly instruction book, and the little tuning tools used to sync up the tuner. Part of him was showing off for my Michigan engineer friends.

The guys loved it. One of my buddies used to bring over his Koss Electrostatic* headphones (whatever the hell they were) to listen to music through it because (in his words) "it has the purest signal."

Long ago and far away...
And so much better than it is today.
