There is no debate that those with a college degree as a cohort do tons better economically (with lots of exceptions that PROVE the rule)

How many years ago - 60-80 - 100 (I have tried to search and have no answer) did WE ALL decide that it was a central local GOV obligation (and benefit to the community) to pay for k-12 or preK-12

So lets say 80 years ago it was so decided

I do not see people saying we should renege on that compact we all have bought into - with our kids and tax dollars

So maybe - with the changes in society and the nature of good paying work (away from sweat labor) - we as a society should move to publicly paid for education through 14th v 12th grade

what is so special about 12th grade that we bought into it but have not looked around us and said - that simply is not enough for a healthy community

that assumes -- I believe 200% correctly - that paying for preK-12 is a brilliant investment of publicly collected tax money

I assume the same for two more years - not a four year college --

Such free (if you have a c+ or better or whatever average in HS) 13 and 14 would serve an array of purposes - often different by person

1. Finish the high school education they never really got --- a solid good HS education is still worth a ton and many places you do not get that no matter how hard you try

2. Two years - cheap - towards a 4 year bachelors degree - with those doing well (by some grade or test) getting to count the two years as the first two of four years

3. Tech training - not just plumbers and electricians (still much needed and well paying) but all the various jobs that require some solid technical knowledge (cyber - health - safety) - that one does not get in HS
