AZN—It seems counterintuitive that the half-sized priming dose produced better efficacy than the full-sized priming dose. However, it’s conceivable that the lower priming dose was genuinely beneficial insofar as it produced fewer neutralizing antibodies against the viral vector used for vaccine delivery, enabling the boost (i.e. second) dose to work with less interference.
Of course, the observed efficacy disparity between AZN’s two dosing regimens could also be a statistical fluke.
