A line of credit with UST would solve the problem! For decades the gses' biz model ran with an implicit government guarantee with just a $2B line of credit at UST.

MBS investors will have no doubt that like the tbtf banks, Uncle Sug will be there to provide an assist if all hell breaks lose.
