Let me post this story here, I played football with this guy in highschool and he lived down the street for me for years recently. He was in very good shape. We are both 44. He posted this on social media last week...

Well on October 10th my family and I set out on our 15th straight year to Destin Florida to celebrate fall break. Over the years the size has grown from a small group of maybe 10-11 to 21 this year. As usual Destin was great. The weather was perfect, company was great and we ate like champs. Fast forward a few days on the trip and people begin to feel a little under the weather. Runny noses, aches pains, congestion, etc. We chalk it up to “Florida weather” and go about our business. Upon return to Louisville we all get tested (5 McGregor’s) for Covid 19. Sure enough all 5 positive. Ok well guess that explains feeling yucky part of the week. So we began our quarantine immediately. The family starts to show signs of improvement. Just better overall health, better clarity and just rounding the turn to better health overall. However I felt like I was just stuck. Wasn’t making progress and wasn’t feeling any better. Friday night this past week I monitored my oxygen levels throughout the night as it tanked to 77. Once Julie awoke on Saturday morning we made the difficult decision to go to ER. That sucked because you aren’t allowed to have any visitors at any time during your stay. After a million test it was determined i also had pneumonia on top of Covid. Lucky me. Doc came in and said we will keep you for 5 days. ??. Wth?? I thought oh no I’m not coming outta here. If you watch the news you know the gloom and doom. My mind immediately went to a dark place one that i wasn’t having it. I got kids I got a wife I got grass to cut I got all kinds of crap and suburban ain’t on the top of my list. Right then I decided to become a model patient. I did everything they asked i was super polite and I told myself do what you gotta do and get the hell outta here. Each day I began to feel better. The aches and pains went away the headaches subsided the cough got better and my oxygen began to stabilize with the assistance of oxygen. Last night they gave me my discharge papers and I came home. Yes I look like an old man walking around on oxygen and who knows how long I’ll be on it but I’m home and couldn’t be happier. I got to get up in middle of night and clean up puke because someone gave the dog something they shouldn’t have and I about broke my neck twice tripping on an oxygencord but I’m home. Not really sure why sharing this other then to say Covid kicked my tail and continues to do so. So far got me for 16lbs. So over here it’s Covid 16 and counting. Last thing. Ever wonder who your real friends are. Get sick. Our support system did exactly what I would expect. Our meals were cooked my grass was cut and my kids had tons of sugar. To each and everyone of you who texted, prayed, cooked, baked, or sent me funny text thank you so much. Long update but thought I’d share now that I’m home.
Oh yeah important part. Immediately they put me on a steroid to improve lung capacity along with remdesivir and a Z-pac. Just in the past 10 days or so remdesivir was fda approved for the treatment of Covid 19. If you are like me you spend a lot of time researching things and this seems to have mixed reviews but at this point i think we are all grasping at straws trying to figure out what works on the fly. This mixed with multiple other drugs got me going on the path I needed to be on. My nurses and doctors were great. Most of the time i would just shake my head and smile at the doctors because i couldn’t understand them but a smile is a universal sign of appreciation.
