That's what was told to the ignorant public anyway. Of course most had the understanding of an ant when it came to Saddam. He was hated by al qaeda and he hated them and would no more trust them with wmd than we would trust the kkk. Because of our punk leader we now will have a islamist state, which was the desire of Osama in the first place. We have a much stronger Iran, a much weaker Israel and US as a result of our feckless one.
