Dr. Hari Sankaran is a U.S. board certified paediatric haematologist-oncologist with 7 years of experience at Baylor College of Medicine, the largest childhood cancer center in the United States and currently ranked #2 for childhood cancer treatment in the U.S. He joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 2016 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology, Division of Paediatric Hematology/Oncology. As an Adjunct Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, he is involved in several global initiatives to improve childhood cancer care in Sub-Saharan Africa and other resource limited countries.
He brings to Amrita his expertise in delivering high-quality care for childhood cancer through multidisciplinary care, access to the latest research and U.S. childhood cancer experts.
Having completed a Masters in Epidemiology at the University of Texas School of Public Health, his research focuses on the study of risk factors in paediatric cancers and the cost-effectiveness of treatment strategies for paediatric cancers in resource limited settings.
His previous research work was supported by the National Institute of Health and Science, Bethesda, USA, including completion of a cancer epidemiology training fellowship. He has a wealth of experience conducting high quality epidemiologic research studies which has led to publications in prestigious international journals.
In the laboratory, his interest in molecular epidemiology focuses on the role of viruses in the tumor microenvironment, their oncogenic role in childhood cancer, and novel biomarkers for risk stratification/prognostication of childhood cancer. He has presented at several national and international conferences and is an active member of the American Society of Paediatric Hematology-Oncology and the Indian Paediatric Oncology Group.
