I took this off of another and I beleive it to be true. EXDATE is the ONLY date that matters.
The point is the EX date is the ONLY important date for purposes of getting the dividend. The record date merely fixes the dividend to the existing shares. If you sell AFTER RECORD DATE and BEFORE ex date, your stock is PREGNANT with the divy...you sell with "due bills" (divy) attached. Likewise if you buy before EX date, you are buying that "Pregnant" stock...
