that far too left storyline is the one the right wing ALWAYS uses to send fear into its voters.

And it works. People that work for a living don't want their tax dollars going to support illegal aliens and disputed global warming claims. The fear factor is employed by all sides trying to win over voters because it does work. Fear is a great motivator. Watch the political ads coming out of both dems and repubs until the election. I'd almost be willing to bet 90% or more are based on fear as a prime factor.
