Mostly agree with all you say.

One statement has room for debate.
" ..I hear the FDA has industry vets that might be sympathetic to certain companies when no clear data points to efficacy."

The operative words are " I hear". Who knows- the person(s) you "heard " it from may himself have heard it from someone too.... and so on.
Unless the person you heard it from can back it up with who,what and when, it's rumor only and should not be relied upon and used to hold the FDA in disrepute as a conspirator.

Otherwise I agree with everything you say.
