Definitely. I doubt it has anything to do with genetics or bacteria in the gut though, otherwise we'd have found a common cause in AD patients by now.
Genes and microbiomes affect the disease, sure, but they're not what's causing it. Having the APOE4 gene or a lack of certain bacteria in the gut does not guarantee someone getting AD. Something is causing those neurons to self-destruct and it needs to be something that every AD patient has.
For now I'm encouraged by the consistent improvement in moderate patients. Repairing a broken car won't keep the rust away though until you figure out how to apply anti-rust paint, and it certainly won't help if the car is falling apart faster than you can repair it.
