I have to agree with your son, LA traffic is bad, probably worse that Chicago.

Right now traffic is not so bad, but there are just so many cars usually that you just sit in traffic for hours going nowhere.

When I first moved to LA area, we went to dinner in LA which was only about 35 miles away and it took about 3 hours to get there. Insane.

Yosemite is nice and you should go see the monster trees in Sequoia national park too if you have time and haven't seen it yet.
