"...But until then, I am a little concerned about the sorts of terms Hollywood may be able to demand - even in the event that I have a choice whether to watch a movie or not..."

I believe that "Hollywood" has been instrumental in getting the industry shaken up. The very fact that they have stirred the pot on the political level and also repeatedly put the blame squarely on the technology companies for not coming up with a solution providing - for them - an acceptable secure platform has now resulted in several industry initiatives to provide the market with secure PC's and, ultimately, with secure television sets.

Keeping in mind that the client, and I am convinced about that, will always have control of their platforms. The Intel microprocessor serial number fiasco several years back will make sure that organizations like the EFF keep an eye, maybe both, on the technology; Privacy concerns alone will make sure that only open systems will be deployed.

So, your wish...

"...My clandestine hope is that the distribution possibilities of a trust network break the back of this Hollywood power. Because through the network, theoretically everyone will be able to offer their products to the world eventually..."

...will, most likely, become true.

"...Which means that some of the more benevolent market forces will dictate terms to content producers as well as consumers..."

What constitutes "benevolent market forces"?

Is it not a combination of "choice of supply" - which necessitates a neutral technology allowing each content provider to attach their very own DRM, and what the customer wants to consume? Market forces!
