Santa Clara is only unique from the stand point that it contains a lot of leading tech companies that conducts a lot of international travel to China because of the nature of the work done by those companies. It is suburbia like much of CA suburbia, or WA subsubia (actually quite similar), or other counties in the counties surrounding SF Bay. SF itself has higher density because lot sizes are smaller. Nothing like NYC.
