Just like that, three of the four key figures leading Britain's response were knee-capped by COVID-19. The fourth - Chief Scientific Officer Patrick Vallance - has no symptoms and has not been tested. He was absent from daily media briefing on Friday, however.
The heart of government is now a hotspot for infections. Besides Johnson, Hancock and Whitty, two more junior government ministers have tested positive, chief Brexit negotiator David Frost is self-isolating after showing symptoms, and some prime ministerial staff have been sent home to quarantine.
