Seek I agree there are reports from China and South Korea which support the use of Hydroxychloroquine in treating Covid 19. The S Korean reports are credible. The fact that hydroxychloroquine is an approved drug does mean it will be prescribed by physicians as an off label treatment until the clinical studies are available.

IMO Hydroxychloroquine will be a part of the initial clinical trials. The clinical trials of approved drugs is essential to evaluate which treatment is the most efficacious. These trials will be streamlined and relatively quick. They will be performed in a controlled fashion so efficacy can be compared between the agents.

As I mentioned in an earlier post combining agents will also be done soon:

I look for the secondary trials to combine hydroxychloroquine with the second tier drugs which are approved or close to approval such as :Antivirals like Remdisvir, antibiotic antiinflammatory Brilacidin, antiinflammatory tocilizumab.

It is possible triple drug combinations similar to some HIV treatments may prove optimal.
