My point is not necessarily specific to coronavirus, but does fit in this case, too.

My point is that often people overreact, as they are doing in this case, and the overreaction causes more problems than the thing they are reacting to.

Of course this is a serious situation, but does it warrant the mass hysteria and closing of so many schools and businesses and events? Probably not.

The fear and panic that is being spread is vastly disproportionate the event that is occurring.

Over 22,000 died just in the U.S. a few years ago from H1N1, and the general reaction was pretty much a yawn. Why? Because the media didn't hype it like it was the coming of the apocalypse like they are with this.
