So far the best estimate is about 3500 people have died worldwide and in the U.S. the death toll has reached 21.

Let's put this in perspective to the 4200 lives U.S. loses each month from illegal drug use.

This is not grasping that epidemics are exponential machines. And, sure, they can be halted. But halting exponential often comes with large cost.

Of course the cost is made greater when there is denial of the power of exponential (not intended to be an indictment, just stating an observable fact)
