The devices they use to monitor are commonly available components/devices. The algorithms are the most important and most are covered by patents, the rest of the programming is academic. It did surprise me that it took so long for them to get a intuitive GUI (one of their blunders). I also think they missed on (maybe they did it and I missed it) was what David Vik wanted to do early on which was to put as much as they can into firmware on the commonly available components. Otherwise I believe the software is solid.
