Funny enough some of those big name companies that hit the dust were, at one point, penny stocks. Moral of the story is that companies may start off with "toxic debt" but rise to be massive entities. Just because something is small doesn't mean it doesn't have potential. The whole stock market goes up and down, but that's where you take a risk and lock in your gains. When you realize this, maybe you'll be successfully. The fact that you don't even look into what's being stated is a clear sign of your trading skills. Good luck to you.
