if one of the majors wanted to do a 4 socket server they would want fully functional parts for 6 months or so to do system level validation.

So that 6 month clock won't start ticking for quite some time. With Penryn being much closer in design to C2D based QC, would that cut down the qualifying time? You see where I'm going here.
