The coronavirus is a flu virus. Flu viruses, which are very common all over the world, mutate very easily and all on their own.
In fact, the denser the host population -- the host being all insect, animal, mammal, fish species -- the faster the viruses mutate.
Viruses are natures way of preventing overpopulation of the earth.
