Yes, gas and oil is already unprofitable. That's why it was B.S. for the industry to pour millions into opposing a state measure to clean up and regulate the industry better. They screamed about all the jobs that would be lost but didn't mention that those jobs were just temporary type jobs as they had shrunk during the recession but expanded again afterward.

In spite of the expansion the industry still was not economically or environmentally viable and it will shrink again.

Still, we will need this industry through a transitional period. Those who manage to be cleaner and more efficient will be the last man standing.

Perhaps this is why Exxon is moving toward carbon capture.
