re DIC/sepsis
I read the papers just have nothing really to add. We shoudl count ourselves lucky the data cited by waynebio exists to guide the forthcoming trial design. what leo/gtcb should do differently seems clear:

1. limit enrollment to just the DIC subgroup of sepsis pts
2. limit enrollment to patients with high risk (but not highest risk) of mortality
3. allow no concomitant heparin therapy

DIC/sepsis remains a high risk-high reward indication, but the above design (perhaps I missed something so please feel free to edit) should stack the deck as much in favor of success as possible..I think
