I've had an admin tell me they wouldn't remove a post that violated the TOS because it had remained posted longer than a day.

Do you mean an admin or a mod? Board moderators cannot remove messages older than 48 hours. Admins can, if the violation is egregious, so if you didn't ask one in the first place, do that now.
