You're right. Stocks need OTC traders pumping the stock regardless of whether there's news coming or not. Things made up are always better than facts.

This "bottom" goes back to June. And there's still room for a new bottom. So, I don't see how it can be said that this has "clearly" bottomed.

You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make him get down on one knee and do an Al Jolson impression!
