How about a ban on assault weapons? Do you think that might work?
It would probably help. But, criminals or those fixated on having one will have them, regardless of the law.
I live in Northern Michigan. I am a gun owner as are the majority of residents here. I own no assault weapons, nor do I see the purpose of owning one. Sadly, a law banning assault weapons is too little and too late. But, if banning them will prevent even a portion of these shootings, I'm in favor of a ban.
I am also in favor of better law enforcement, which seems to be an issue, prior to some of these shootings. How often have we read that law enforcement assistance was requested and ignored? How often are gun violators let back out on the street, who then end up shooting or murdering someone?
That is why I say new laws are not the answer, if the existing ones are not enforced. The latest shooting is an example. There were complaints about this guy. But nothing was done. A simple check by law enforcement would have revealed that this guy should not have a weapon. But, we all saw what happened yet again.
