GOP congressman from Dayton Mike Turner backs ban on 'military-style' guns, magazine limits

Turner has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association and last year earned the organization's support for opposing a ban on semi-automatic firearms, commonly called "assault weapons."

Turner's daughter and a family friend were at a bar across the street when the shooting unfolded.

"I believe these are necessary steps forward in protecting our country and a testament to American values, which include protecting human life," Turner said. "I understand not every shooting can be prevented or stopped from these measures, but I do believe these steps are essential."
