Miami, Florida, August 6, 2019 - Global PoleTrusion Group Corp.s (OTC PINK: GPGC) Director of Research and Development, Omar Abdelkarim, Ph.D., P.Eng., M.ASCE, M.CSCE, recently presented the progress of their research, in collaboration with the University of Sherbrooke, during the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) AnnualMeetingat the University of Sherbrooke. GPGCs sister company, PoleTrusion Canada (PTC), is an active researchcollaborator with the Industrial Research Chair in Innovative Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composite Materials for Infrastructure which also includes Hydro-Qubec and Pultrall Inc.
Dr. Abdelkarim presented the results of his research relating to the resistance of their composite poles under ultraviolet (UV) sun rays. The UV rays were simulated using the Atlas SUNTEST XLS+ instrument, an apparatus designed for performing artificially accelerated weathering and irradiation tests. The tests were conducted according to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) G155 standards. Samples tested for UV exposure were subjected to the same amount of UV radiation as would be obtained from the sun in Miami, Florida, over a period of 16 months.
GPGCs poles demonstrated remarkable performance by retaining 99% of their tensile strength and 96% of their compressive strength. The tension and compression stiffness of the poles increased with time under exposure to UV radiation to approximately 116% and 137% of that of the unexposed samples, respectively. These results indicate that under the same amount of wind pressure, GPGCs poles are likely to experience a lower amount of top displacement over time, thanks to the UV protection additive included in the resin used to make the poles.
