In the late nineties, slammer dolphin (25lbs and up) were quite common off the Keys, but over the years they got smaller and smaller on average. I thought the net ban would bring them back to size, but it hasn't.
I quit taking my regular trips back in 2012, but keep up with guys who still go down for a yearly week long private tournament. Of late, their results have been pathetic with a fish as small as 15lbs winning for the week.
I figure that they must be netting them like crazy or long lining off of South America, or something like that. They are such prolific breeders that there's no way that line fishing could deplete the population to such a degree.
