Those days were before the big corps sucked all the money for themselves, so as productivity grew, the big corps inhaled a bigger share of the profits while keeping growth in real dollars stagnant for the workers. Eventually, to maintain their standard of living, women entered the workforce in large numbers.

When both partners worked and raised kids, time became the new scarce commodity. So time-saving products became much in favor. There has been a couple rebellions of sort against that, including the 60's hippy "back to the land" movement. And another movement that changed things a little: eating healthy, instead of eating the processed stuff that saved food preparation time, but for the most part, the return to recycling and designing less impactful packaging on the environment has become a slow process.

The 1% in effect gathered up and hoarded everyone's most precious commodity, time(converted to money) and managed to imperil the environment as mere collateral damage.

So I believe they need to give time back such that no one has to work two jobs. If you only have one job, you have time to recycle, shop for foods, and be generally have time to live a less brutal lifestyle.
