Nope, Sullivan's self-description is not a shopped for fact.

Can you comprehend how he can be a conservative on most issues, but a liberal on issues that affect gays?


Sullivan says his conservatism is rooted in his Roman Catholic background and in the ideas of the British political philosopher Michael Oakeshott;[3][4] In 2003, he wrote he was no longer able to support the American conservative movement, as he was disaffected with the Republican Party's continued rightward drift on social issues during the George W. Bush era.[5]




Your opinion piece falsely characterizes Sullivan as a liberal.

One does not have to read far beyond his headline, however, to realize that Sullivan’s real purpose is to malign his usual antagonists on the left
