UBSS, ETRD, NITE are generally retail sellers. Sometimes Ameritrade sells through SBSH instead of UBSS, because UBSS has begun charging, I'm told.
However SBSH can also sell for Smith Barney and Citigroup. That's the confusing part.
Then you have market makers like ARCA who is used by people who trade through an ECN. My other broker uses NITE. These are your average retail market makers..UBSS and ETRD being the most common.
But CLYP, VFIN, VERT, STGI, VFIN, SSGI are what I call institutional. These are market makers we love to see on the bid, but don't like to see on the ASK, imo.
