The US Bankruptcy Code. Unless all the debtors are creditors are 100% satisfied for what they are owed, the remaining debt and equity will be cancelled upon the conclusion of the bankruptcy case.

Period.

There is zero chance that the common shares "are safe". They will be cancelled, and anyone holding shares will lose 100% of their investment.
