speaking of gruppos and gearsets ...
Way ahead of schedule, with heart in throat, I decided to give it a go with the "A" training ride here the end of last week. About that 53 chainring ... let's just say it's in use and an absolute necessity. I think I spent most of the 45 minutes of serious hammertime in the 53x15/14/13 as the speeds ranged from 28-32. Better still, the week before last when we had a big front move through with serious winds, I actually spun out the 53x13 (at 46MPH, lol) on a solo ride! Almost made the stretch into that wind worth it. Almost.
Oh, and having hooked back up with my favorite old training partner for rides once a week, I'm going to start getting some wattages -- he's under contract to Robbie Ventura's Vision Quest group (somehow Robbie coordinates/collaborates with Alan Lim on Floyd's wattage based analysis), and so rides with a PowerTap on his bike. Now if only I can manage some side-by-side time with him at high effort levels I'll get to see where those efforts register on the wattage scale. Problem is, that's a lot easier said than done, LOL.
p.s. the Tom Cruise scientology analogy ... priceless. Lucky I wasn't drinking coffee or a soda when I read that -- it would have been up my nose and all over the keyboard and screen.
