If you prefer, use the opening market prices on 1/2/13 (the first day of trading post-split), which yields the same result: ABBV's opening post-split price on 1/2/13 was about 8% higher than ABT's.

In total-return calculations, adding in reinvested dividends for each company doesn't overcome the handicap of ABBV's higher basis.
